LIMITS OR NO LIMITS
Still can't get over this 81-year-old averaging 8:00 per mile for 26.2 miles at the Toronto Marathon in 2012. He ran 3:15:54 at the race the year before to shatter the world 80-and-over record. Whitlock’s 3:30:26 in the marathon on October 14 2012. His time lowered the age-81 record by more than 16 minutes. Afterwards, Whitlock claimed that injury earlier in the year had cut into his daily three-hour runs around a neighborhood cemetery.
This gives me hope that no matter what we face, age does not have to set limits. Injuries can slow us down but we make the choice to keep going.
Put your running shoes on and just do it. Let nothing stand in the way of the feeling it brings to stay in shape. Get up, run, walk, work out or just chase kids. A fit body makes for a fit mind and never stop.
As one of the simplest exercises, walking requires no equipment except for a good, supportive pair of walking shoes. Exercise physiologist Julia Valentour says, "Exercise doesn't have to be hard to be effective.
Weight loss isn't the only benefit of a walking program. Regular walking helps lower cholesterol, reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, increases bone strength, and improves circulation.
"Just a few extra steps each day is a simple and easy way to take an active role in maintaining a significantly healthier life," says Timothy Gardner, MD, past president of the American Heart Association.
So for me, some days I walk and some days I jog. I've also started swimming. My goal is to run in the PF Chang marathon. It can be a reality sooner than later by just doing it. I'm getting there.
Enjoy your day!
Angie
